The contents of the old Experience TV gallery at the National Media Musuem have been reinstated as Sound and Vision at the National Science and Media Museum in Bradford as an interactive exhibition. We went yesterday as my daughter is in the grips of a Doctor Who fixation and wanted to see the Dalek they have on display. It didn’t disappoint, but there is also a small display for the BBC Radiophonic Workshop with clips from featuring Delia Derbyshire and Ron Grainer including the making of the Doctor Who theme. There’s also a live mixing desk set up for a Prodigy live set (not accessible, but that would have been fun), the radio studio has been brought up to date in assocation with local station BCB. There are also beautiful displays about the Cottingley Fairies and Ray Harryhausen‘s Dynamation technique.
It’s good to see it back, as it was always the best part of the museum, and the concentration on science and video games since reopening made it feel like other media had been neglected although there is a great photographic exhibition as well. My daughter wants to go back again, of course.
